Tonight’s result: Motherwell 1, Dunfermline 0.
We secured a top six finish with a narrow win over Dunfermline at Fir Park tonight. While it was a poor game, especially in the first half, we probably did enough to earn the three points as Dunfermline rarely threatened.
Keith Lasley returned to the starting line-up, but Scott McDonald again missed out, which resulted in a striking partnership of Craig and Burns with Clarkson on the bench.
The only goal of the game came after just nine minutes when Jason Dair was fouled in the box by Andy Tod, and Derek Adams made no mistake from the spot. Dair later had a couple of decent efforts and was unfortunate not to increase our lead, while Gordon Marshall had one excellent save to deny Dempsey.
The second half saw Motherwell enjoy most of the possession, and we came close to increasing our lead when Burns headed just past the post. The Pars were seldom seen as an attacking force, in fact substitute Byrne made their most notable contribution of the night when late on he almost broke Keith Lasley’s leg with a ridiculous challenge, which unbelievably went unpunished by the referee.
Team (4-4-2): Marshall, Quinn, Craigan, Corrigan, Hammell, Lasley (Fagan 87), Adams, O’Donnell, Dair, Craig (Clarkson 82), Burns.
Subs not used: Corr, Kinniburgh, Wright.
Booked: Lasley.
Attendance: 3,920.
The club are now in the final stages of emerging from administration. No objections were raised to the creditors’ voluntary agreement, and we should be out of admin within two weeks. Motherwell administrator Bryan Jackson posted the following message on the WellTrust Forum earlier today:
“I am pleased to confirm that yesterday was the last day for lodging objections and none have been received. Good news and a further step to getting rid of me!
“Our solicitors have instructed Counsel to have my appointment withdrawn but have advised us that this could take up to 2 weeks as it has to be lodged in the Court of Session. The timescale seems to depend on Counsel’s availability, court time, etc. We have asked for it to be done as soon as possible.
“Once the appointment is withdrawn, the club will officially be out of interim administration and, at the same time, I will be confirmed as Supervisor to deal with the creditors claims and pay the dividends per the creditors voluntary arrangement. We have been adjudicating on creditors’ claims and this is nearly completed.
“At the appropriate time, it is likely we will issue a press release to confirm that we are legally out of interim administration.
“I agree we do not seem to be getting much press but maybe this is not a bad thing.
“In the meantime, a good result off the park, so here’s hoping for a result on the field tonight.”
