18.12.95 Motherwell have reportedly made a bid for Dundee United striker Owen Coyle, who has struggled to hold down a regular first team place since his recent move from Bolton. Motherwell have been interested in the player for some time now but have been unsuccessful in previous attempts to sign him.
14.12.95 Alex McLeish states in the Motherwell Times that he has dropped his interest in Oldham’s Darren Beckford and Celtic’s Willie Falconer.
13.12.95 Danish striker Riffi Haddaovi is on trial at Fir Park for the next few days, and he played with the reserves last night. Airdrie had the FC Copenhagen player on trial last week but couldn’t agree terms. If the move goes ahead, Haddaovi is expected to cost less than #100,000.
11.12.95 Following our 1-0 defeat at Aberdeen on Saturday and Kilmarnock’s 4-0 win over Falkirk, Motherwell have now dropped to bottom place in the Premier League Table. We have now gone nine games without a win and have managed only two goals in our last eight matches.
Saturday’s newspapers suggested that Motherwell were preparing a #300,000 bid for Oldham striker Darren Beckford. Beckford cost Oldham #900,000 when he signed from Norwich, and it is unlikely that we would be able to afford his wages. Meanwhile, yesterdays Sunday Mail suggested that we are interested in Celtic striker Willie Falconer who is valued at #150,000, and todays Evening Times suggests that we are interested in another Oldham player, midfielder Lee Richardson, formerly of Aberdeen. Richardson is valued at #100,000 and Alex McLeish is quoted as saying “I would be interested in bringing Lee to the club if the indications were he was unhappy”.
5.12.95 Newspaper reports suggest that Hearts manager Jim Jeffries is preparing a bid for midfielder Billy Davies. It is believed that Hearts are interested in a swap deal that would involve Davies moving to Tynecastle. Jeffries failed in an attempt to sign Jamie Dolan in exchange for midfielder Brian Hamilton earlier in the season.
4.12.95 Alex McLeish was in the Netherlands last week to check out two players that were recommended to him. One is believed to be a striker and the other a midfielder.
